University representatives participated in the meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee Between the Republic of Moldova and the State of North Carolina

Today, March 18, 2024, the meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee between the Republic of Moldova and the state of North Carolina, United States of America, took place in Chisinau, in the context of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the partnership between the two states.
The meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee was chaired by the co-chairs - Secretary of State of North Carolina Elaine F. Marshall and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popsoi. During the meeting the achievements in the defense, educational, medical, and humanitarian areas, which contributed to the development and expansion of the partnership in 25 years of collaboration, were presented and assessed.
"We agreed on the renewal of the Memorandum of Principles and Procedures between the Republic of Moldova and the State of North Carolina, regarding the intention of strengthening good relations. This fact confirms the commitment and interest of the parties to ensure the continuity of ongoing projects and, at the same time, to further advance and explore new dimensions of cooperation, such as the fields of justice and public security, internal affairs, economic and regional development, agriculture, technology information and communications, culture and tourism, environmental protection," said Deputy Prime Minister Popsoi.
For her part, Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall appreciated the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and North Carolina, noting that it represents not only completed projects, but also commitments, friendships and connections between people. "The State of North Carolina will continue to be a strategic development partner for the Republic of Moldova in several fields, including educational, medical, military, humanitarian and agricultural ones", the American official assured.
During the meeting, Professor Emil Ceban, rector of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy from the Republic of Moldova, spoke about cooperation projects with universities, research and medical-sanitary institutions and other organizations in the state of North Carolina in the field of distance learning, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and about the interlibrary partnership.
The activities mainly focused on the promotion of the academic mobility of professors, students, medical residents and librarians, the launch and development of the undergraduate Nursing program, but also on the support received from the universities and various organizations in North Carolina in order to modernize the medical and teaching equipment.
The rector emphasized that all these important initiatives were supported by the Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and the ambassadors of the United States of America in the Republic of Moldova, for which he expressed his sincere and deep gratitude. The activities carried out within the bilateral partnership laid the foundation for sustainable development and contributed to increasing the quality of training, research and medical assistance, according to contemporary standards. These activities have a systemic nature and exert a beneficial influence on higher medical education and the healthcare system in the Republic of Moldova.
"We wish that in the future our collaboration with US partners would be on the rise in the name of the progress of mankind. We want to maintain what we have started and is already working, to capitalize on the efforts made, to further develop new directions of cooperation, to remain good friends and reliable partners. Because only together we will succeed!", concluded rector Emil Ceban.
Professor Ceban mentioned that, in 2015, the Senate of Nicolae Testemitanu University awarded Mrs. Elaine Marshall the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa for prodigious national and international multilateral activity, support and aid given to the Republic of Moldova, to the health system and, especially, our university - constant support for the fruitful development of collaborative relations in the fields of training, research and medical assistance.Î
